Insurance
Financial protection for your goods, from loading to delivery
Shipping insurance is optional and not included in our quotes by default. You need to request it when placing your order.
Most clients assume that if something goes wrong, the carrier will make them whole. The reality is more complicated: carriers’ standard liability is calculated on the weight of the cargo, not its value. For a shipment of handcrafted furniture or decorative goods from Bali, that gap can be significant. Insurance covers the declared value of your goods, regardless of how the carrier calculates liability.
What it costs
For both air freight and sea freight (FCL and LCL), the premium is 2% of the declared value, plus a USD 20 administration fee. This rate applies to any destination worldwide.
There is a 3% deductible on any amount claimed, with a minimum of USD 150.
These figures are indicative. The full conditions are defined by the insurance contract, which is the binding reference in all cases.
Our insurance is arranged in partnership with Great Eastern General Insurance Indonesia, one of Southeast Asia’s established general insurers.
What the coverage includes and when it applies
The policy covers your goods against loss, physical damage, and mishandling during transport. Coverage begins when the transport operator collects your cargo and ends upon delivery to the consignee at the destination. It does not extend to storage before pickup or after delivery.
If something goes wrong
Cargo insurance claims follow a strict procedure, and missing a step can cost you the right to compensation. If your goods arrive damaged or incomplete, here is what to do:
- Inspect the shipment on arrival, before the delivery driver leaves, if possible.
- Photograph all damage thoroughly, including the packaging.
- Note any damage or discrepancy on the delivery receipt or Bill of Lading before signing.
- Keep all original packaging until the claim is fully resolved. Do not discard anything.
- Notify us in writing as quickly as possible. Delays in reporting can invalidate a claim.
The exact notification deadline is specified in your insurance contract. As a rule of thumb, report within 24 to 48 hours of identifying any damage.
